Will you take pictures of my wedding?
No. There are hundreds of really great wedding photographers in Houston. Spend the money and get a specialist, you won't regret it. I take rock show photos and shots of musicians because I feel a very special vibe when somebody is really giving their all to their music. I discovered a talent for capturing those onstage moments, and it's what I like to do.
Do you take lots of crowd shots? Our fans love it.
Yeah, they do, and no, I don't. My reasons being I'm involved in what I'm seeing onstage, first and foremost, and secondly, there are a lot of fans running around with cameras taking pictures of each other at shows. Although I do think crowd shots are an awesome way to build fan loyalty, you'd do much better just encouraging your fans to put their crowd shots on myspace or send them directly to you for future use. Mostly, I'm just here to take pictures of the band.
Your camera equipment doesn't look very fancy.
True dat. I use a Canon Power Shot S1 1S with your basic 10X optical zoom at 5.8 - 58 mm. 1:28 -3.1. Straight out of the original box, no modifications at all except a bigger flash card. And yet, look at the shots I take every weekend with this thing. I've owned some really great cameras in the past, from Nikon to Sony video, and they were great in their ways, too, but I really like the shots I'm getting with this little guy. Sure, I'm jealous of other peoples' equipment, but I don't think the artistic quality of my shots suffer for the lack of a fancy lens or a superduper flash bulb. Again, take a look at the photos on this site and tell me what you think.
So, do you have a studio or something?
Nope. I'm currently sneaking onto my ex-boyfriend's computer while he's at work. So if "beating the street" for a gig means going to your shows to get the killer shots, I'm all about that. As long as I have my laptop and a power outlet, I can go anywhere.
